Square Enix has announced that Star Ocean: First Departure R, a role-playing game which was first launched on the PlayStation Portable in 2007, is coming soon to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. It is an enhanced PSP remake of the first Star Ocean game for PlayStation Portable in 2008, which itself was based on the first Star Ocean for Super Nintendo , published by Enix, developed by tri-Ace, in 1996.

Seven years ago, Star Ocean had a special hardware requirement in its cartridge so that the Super Nintendo could handle it. The graphics were very advanced and the game’s data needed an extra chip for its visuals. However, there will be new features in the upcoming high definition versions of the remake for Switch and PS4.
For those who are interested in learning more about this game here is a PSP remake trailer below by the youtuber xionlloyd.
Star Ocean was followed by four more games on consoles with the most recent launched in 2017. It was a 4K update for PlayStation 4 and PC based on the 2009’s Star Ocean: The Last Hope and was the fourth game in the series priced at $20.99. Let’s hope that Star Ocean First Departure R will be also available to the Steam players for the same price.
Square Enix confirmed the worldwide release of the game without giving more details on the date of it, as well as whether this will be a physical launch or in online marketplaces only.
